Document Shortcuts¶
Shortcuts provide quick access to documents from multiple locations without duplicating the actual file.
What Are Shortcuts?¶
A shortcut is a pointer to a document stored elsewhere in infoRouter. When you click a shortcut, you're taken to the original document.
No Duplication
Shortcuts don't create copies of documents. The original document remains in its location, and the shortcut simply provides another way to access it.
Creating a Shortcut¶
- Navigate to the folder where you want the shortcut
- Click New > Shortcut
- Browse to select the target document
- Enter a name for the shortcut (optional)
- Click OK
Shortcut Behavior¶
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Click shortcut | Opens the original document |
| Edit via shortcut | Edits the original document |
| Delete shortcut | Removes shortcut only (original unchanged) |
| Security | Uses original document's permissions |
Use Cases¶
| Scenario | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Cross-library access | Access documents without navigating to other libraries |
| Project folders | Gather related documents from different locations |
| Quick access | Create shortcuts in frequently visited folders |
| Reference materials | Point to standard documents from multiple projects |
Identifying Shortcuts¶
Shortcuts are displayed with a special icon to distinguish them from regular documents.
Visual Indicator
Look for the shortcut overlay icon on the document thumbnail or list item.
Limitations¶
- Shortcuts cannot point to folders (only documents)
- Deleting the original document breaks the shortcut
- Shortcuts inherit security from the original document
